Taiwan leader defends China student policy
Taipei (AFP) April 13, 2011
Taiwan's President Ma Ying-jeou on Wednesday defended the government's move to admit students from mainland China, saying the academic exchanges would help tackle disputes with Beijing. In another sign of fast-warming ties between the rivals, Taiwan's education ministry decided last week that from the next autumn term local colleges and universities will be allowed to take in up to 2,000 mainland students.
