China said Saturday its exports continued to soar in June, as demand for Chinese-made goods remained robust despite Europe's financial woes and a tepid US recovery. The nation's overseas shipments of items including electronic gadgets, shoes and textiles reached 137.4 billion dollars last month, up 43.9 percent from the previous year. Chinese banks issued 603.4 billion yuan (89.1 billion dollars) in new loans in June, down from May, the central bank said Sunday, as Beijing works to gradually works to cool the economy. China to begin major quake reconstruction effort

China announced Thursday it will launch a raft of reconstruction projects in a quake-hit Tibetan region this weekend, nearly three months after the disaster that killed more than 2,700 people. Construction on 200 projects valued at 16 billion yuan (2.36 billion dollars) will begin from Saturday in the Yushu region of the northwestern province of Qinghai, Xinhua news agency said.
