China clones woollier cashmere goats

Scientists in China have cloned a dozen goats engineered with a gene that boosts wool growth, with a view to increasing output of cashmere fibre, state-run media reported Wednesday. Each of the cloned Alpas cashmere goats can yield more than 1,000 grammes (35 ounces) of the fine wool a year, compared to 600 grammes from ordinary goats, Xinhua news agency said. Mazda to recall nearly 90,000 compact cars in Japan, China

Japan's Mazda Motor will recall nearly 90,000 passenger cars domestically and in China due to an oil hose defect, the company said Thursday. China and Venezuela have agreed on energy deals and loans worth a hefty 36 billion dollars, as the Asian giant cements ties with a Latin American state that is a major irritant to Washington.
