China, European Space Agency Sign Deal On Space Co-Op
The Chinese government and the European Space Agency signed cooperation agreement here last Friday on space cooperation for peaceful purposes. Chinese State Councilor Chen Zhili met Jean-Jacques Dordain, director general of the European Space Agency (ESA), and attended the signing ceremony. Chen said space cooperation between China and the ESA is of great significance, and the two sides have carried out quite a number of cooperation programs for peaceful purposes. "The signing of the Cooperation Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the European Space Agency Concerning Space Cooperation for Peaceful Purposes would raise the bilateral space cooperation to a new level," Chen noted. For 30 years, the ESA has worked for promoting space cooperation for peaceful purposes between European countries. The agreement would provide effective cooperation mechanism for China and the ESA to expand space cooperation, sources with the China National Space Administration said.
